Hi everyone, We’re back with June updates! We are filled with joy regarding our recent performance, Spectre, at Relix last weekend and cannot wait to get back to the studio! We have our regular on-going classes as well as a few new things up our sleeve!

A Note from Spectre Directors, Maria McGuire and Laura Burgamy

Spectre surprised everyone. From the incredible dancing from our large cast, into the audience, and throughout the space as creatively as possible, we accepted the challenge, and were met with a wonderful turnout and very appreciative audience. Magic happened. Our silent auction and raffle yielded more than $1,000 in funds for Circle Modern Dance and a portion of the ticket sales will benefit the Cancer Support Community of East TN. We are incredibly grateful to the many hours of technical expertise by our Circle scientists, the behind the scenes publicity and promotions, ingenious choreography, and layers of collaborations that occurred to make this show successful. We are all inspired and preparing for the next epic creation.

Circle Modern Dance Classes

Wednesdays 6:00-7:30pm Intermediate/Advanced Technique with Sarah Whitaker

Sundays 3:00-4:30pm Open Level Technique with Laura Burgamy

Sundays 4:30-6:00pm Improvisation with Rotating Core dancers will be teaching this class

As a reminder class pricing will remains:

$5 per class (first class free)

$100 Unlimited Classes January-December 2012*

$50 Unlimited Classes July-December 2012*

*If you have purchased an unlimited pass in 2011 and have not already registered for the new year, please renew if you plan to attend this way in 2012.

Summer Adult Ballet

CMD is very excited to begin offering an open level ballet class on Wednesdays starting June 6th at 7:30pm, for the summer months! This class will be taught by local dancer, Studio Arts for Dancers faculty member, and owner of White Orchid Bridal- Colleen Moore. This class will follow the same pricing structure as our on-going technique classes.

Capoiera Beginners Class with Contra-mestre Avestruz Starting June 12th

Ever wanted to start capoeira with other beginners? Now is the time! For the first time since starting in 2005, we are offering a Beginners-only class, twice a week. The class starts on June 12 and runs for three months.

Cost: $140, includes free T-shirt (June 12 – September 12).

Times: Tuesday/Thursday 6-7 pm. (Advanced class follows the beginners class)

Where: Emporium basement, corner of Jackson and Gay

What to wear: loose pants, T-shirt, no shoes

Teacher: Contra-mestre Avestruz and experienced students
